CMM 6.1 contents
I was somewhat caught out this morning by a sudden attack of what I understand to be known as ‘bloggers-block’.
I could think of nothing at all that might be considered interesting to read let alone perhaps inform or entertain. Aleksandra, our esteemed CMM Editor, warned me this debilitation was ‘in the post’ the minute I decided to champion my own blog. Her advice at the time was unequivocal. Unless writing is your passion, do not blog. Well, that particular ship has long since sailed and my concerns were centred entirely on the looming editorial deadline and the blank Word document before me.
And then, unconsciously, I picked up the current issue of CMM magazine and found myself looking at the table of contents. The article line-up was reassuringly impressive, covering all the critical technologies, micro moulding, micro machining, micro metrology and MEMS and I was reminded of how lucky CMM magazine is to be able to regularly source really well written, quality editorial from a large base of creative and knowledgeable authors. Writer’s block is most certainly not an issue.
That given, people are often surprised to learn that anybody can have a go at writing for CMM magazine. We invite everyone involved in our industry to send in a relevant submission as and when they can. Submissions can take any form (press releases, white papers, articles etc.) and can be of any length but should always include at least one interesting high quality photograph.
As you would expect, Aleksandra has editorial criteria that must be met before a piece goes on to press but these parameters are not designed to be obstructive; rather, they are simple guidelines that ensure all submissions are fit for purpose. Prospective authors, particularly with longer articles, will sometimes seek input from the Editor at an early stage in the article's development to keep it on topic and thus avoid any wasted effort. Help is always on hand to give your submission the best chance of publication.
While, undoubtedly, writing an editorial for submission to CMM is an opportunity to write about your own products and services in a favourable light, the cardinal sin is to be overly commercial with your content. CMM’s readers trust the magazine to inform and educate in an entirely balanced and independent manner. We will never publish subjective, unsubstantiated claims and boasts about how great your kit is because, frankly, no one cares. However, if you have developed a ground breaking technology that clearly demonstrates a commercial advantage or simply have some relevant interesting and useful tools for sale, then send us some text and a photograph and we will help you tell the world.
