Our Confocal displacement sensors are ideal for extremely precise applications where sub-micron accuracy is required. The confocalDT produces highly accurate results for distance and displacement measurements, and also for measuring the thickness of transparent objects. These new sensors excel through their high sensitivity, the high tilt angle and the large base distance enable a great variety of potential applications. As well as distance measurements for reflective and transparent surfaces, the sensor can also be used for one-sided thickness measurement of clear film, boards or layers.. The system includes the fastest controller currently available in the world. A large selection of sensors, extensive interfaces and simplified web browser-based operation, provide great potential for applications in Micro Machining, MEMS, semiconductor manufacturing, glass production, medical devices and plastics production. Mike Osborne, Technical Director at OpTek Systems’ The machines that we build need to work to extremely high tolerances, typically to sub-micron accuracy. These measurement systems have to cope with changes in the texture and surface finish of the components, which might be high precision air bearings or seals. Typically, these components are machined from metals or hard ceramics, such as silicon carbide or tungsten carbide, and so the sensors need to measure on both dark, diffuse surfaces, as well as shiny reflective, mirrored surfaces. Finding a supplier that could provide us with one type of sensor that met these requirements was a challenge to say the very least. Confocal sensors are capable of measuring component and surface features that were previously beyond our capabilities, which in turn has opened up a lot of scope for providing new quality assurance features on our machines. We’ve also been very pleased with the technical support provided by Micro-Epsilon. We look forward to working with them again on future projects,”

Laser profile sensors from the scanCONTROL series are among the highest performing profile sensors in the world with respect to accuracy and measuring rate. The available models are suitable for numerous industrial applications. Eddy current displacement sensors measure distances, displacements, or positions of any electrically conductive target with micron and submicron accuracies. The principle enables non-contact and wear free measurements. The measurement objects can have either ferromagnetic or non-ferromagnetic properties. Due to its immunity to oil, dirt, dust, moisture, interference fields, etc. The eddy current principle is ideally suited to applications in harsh industrial environments. Micro-Epsilon´s eddy current sensors are the only ones with active temperature compensation and field calibration capabilities.
