Alicona
Alicona has reported the sale of an InfiniteFocus 3D measurement system to the School of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Birmingham.
Professor Stefan Dimov, The head of Advanced Manufacturing Centre, stated:
“The Infinite Focus system is a great addition to our surface metrology equipment. It will allow our advanced machining and laser micro processing groups to carry out roughness and form measurements much quicker now while extending the range of surface “interrogation”/digitising techniques that we can apply in analysing the surface integrity.
Also, the system will help us to build upon our mutually beneficial collaboration with Alicona in joint EC funded research projects, in particular in broadening the capability and the application area of the Infinite Focus technology to perform on-line inspection of micro components, measurements of surface micro and nano structures/textures on different materials and investigations of laser material interactions.
This sale, the latest in a long line of University installations by Alicona, ensures that the focus variation principle is in the forefront of university research that can be taken forward to the production environment.
