Philips Innovation Services offers high-tech innovative companies a range of advanced services, expertise and high-tech facilities across the whole product development process. Innovators can tap into a wide array of technologies including micro/nano and high precision engineering.
Today, complex technologies and products are developed at an ever-increasing pace, within constraints of cost, flexibility and time-to-market, but many companies do not have all the required skills or facilities in-house. Philips Innovation Services aims at closing that gap, providing customers with facilities, instruments and process know-how for their own R&D and production.
1,000 employees provide support in concept creation, product development, prototyping and small series production to industrialization, sustainability, industrial consulting and quality and reliability. Customers are assisted across a wide spectrum of activities, from idea to mass production support, from specific tasks to managing an innovation project.
In nanotechnology and microelectronics, we can develop processes tuned to customers’ needs. This can be scaled up by fabricating engineering products in low-volume production and helping transfer this to high-volume production facilities if desired.
Micro device processing
We help realise processes and devices ranging from lighting devices and micro fluidics to sensors and actuators. Our micro assembly and joining capabilities can assemble components into a single device. Services include R&D and industrial laser technologies. By excimer laser, our large area micro structuring service creates 3D micro structures over large areas on diverse materials, for example, removing polymer layers down to 0.01 microns and drilling down to 100-micron depth. Another highlight is our unique Substrate Conformal Imprint Lithography (SCIL) technique for nano patterning, providing large area imprinting with sub-50 nm resolution. Other services include double-sided processing lithography, piezo thin film processing for MEMS applications, optical coatings, circuits on flexible substrates, and micro fluidics.
Mechatronics and high precision engineering
Using advanced computational and calibration techniques, we can design sensor or metrology systems that may form part of a larger system, such as a robot or manipulator.
Materials and process analysis
Our microscopy and imaging capabilities visualise structures from centimeter-scale to sub-nanometer, and can look below the surface. We offer spectral imaging, 3D imaging, high-speed imaging and imaging of various material properties, and using our Virtual Lab functionality, customers can follow and direct sample analysis remotely in real-time, via secure Internet connection.
Philips Innovation Services’ concept of open innovation, sharing facilities and technical know-how, has caught on. We now help 500 large companies, small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) and knowledge institutes around the world overcome technical challenges and accelerate innovation, with strict attention to customer confidentiality.
