Schunk
The new directly driven linear PPU-E Pick & Place units from SCHUNK are the fastest Pick & Place units on the market with no gear transmission. With the PPU-E 15, SCHUNK enlarges the series with a freely programmable pace-maker, which is custom-tailored for the use in electronic and small part assembly.
With a width of just 60 mm and a complete media supply via the back panel, the PPU-E 15 allows a particularly compact sandwich construction of several units next to each other. If rotary indexing tables are used, more units can be arranged in a circle, or smaller round table diameters can be chosen. For carrying out a complete cycle at a horizontal stroke of 145 mm and a vertical stroke of 45 mm, this productivity booster requires 0.6 seconds at an additional weight of 1 kg, and 2 x 50 ms gripping time. At its peak, the PPU-E 15 achieves 100 picks per minute. The repeat accuracy per axis amounts to 0.01 mm.
As all the linear directly driven Pick & Place units of the innovative family-owned company, the compact PPU-E 15 is also moved via a wear-free direct drive and not by a guidance transmission, as guidance transmission is susceptible to tolerances and wear. This minimises the maintenance effort, increases the continuous repeat accuracy and simplifies programming. Since the unit is equipped with two stationary motors and works without susceptible motor cables, cable breaks and system failures cannot occur.
All supply lines for current, control unit, sensor system and pneumatics are plugged into the rear side stationary connection. Through a flat hybrid cable, the actuators are completely supplied with air, vacuum, current, and electric signals. It is dimensionally stable in lateral direction and also dirt-resistant. In order to increase process reliability, horizontal and also vertical motions can be controlled with an absolute stroke measuring system. Since the gantry arm does not protrude backwards, system planning is facilitated and also increases process reliability during operation.
Intelligent control units can control the gantry arm and the actuators without needing a higher-ranking control unit. The necessary software is already integrated and the unit can be easily commissioned by Plug & Work. Optionally, the PPU-E can be easily, quickly and process reliably integrated into a system by using a standard control unit from Bosch Rexroth. Up to six integrated valves supply the whole pneumatic actuators via one single air feeding. This minimizes the consumption of compressed air and the whole energy consumption whilst at the same time achieving enormous cycle rates. Beside a basic version without gripper interface, the PPU-E is available in six construction stages: With two, four, or six air and sensor interfaces, an electric rotary unit, a two-fold air and sensor connection and a vacuum interface. Optionally it is available with a Venturi nozzle or can be actuated via an external unit. The Z-axis can be also equipped with a spring compensation unit.
