The tools in the EVO-Line 638 boast polished flutes, and their extra stability due to reinforced shank and long service lives makes them ideal for tough materials.Whether in mechanical engineering, the automotive sector or the medical implants industry – new high tech materials abound. At the same time even greater precision and lower tolerances are called for and make it necessary to permanently optimise existing tool systems. With the EVO-Line 638 drills Zecha Hartmetall-Werkzeugfabrikation GmbH is expanding its product range and is facing these tough challenges head on.
Tough materials are par for the course in industry. To machine them successfully and, above all, economically, is nevertheless a constant challenge. The demands placed on the tools employed are correspondingly high too, as they are in the truest sense of the word the “cutting edge” between material and processing machine. Zecha Hartmetall-Werkzeugfabrikation GmbH has a large tool range in stock to solve even the toughest of tasks. The new EVO-Line 638 sees the company launching a series onto the market that covers the diameter range 3 - 6 mm and can machine stainless steels, titanium, high temperature alloys or cast metal head on.
Extra robust due to reinforced shank
The advantages of the new Evo-Line are many. Cris Assandri, responsible for sales in Europe at Zecha on the subject: “We have fundamentally improved key areas of the geometry on the series 638. It means the users can run even faster feed rates and machine a broad spectrum of materials. We have engineered a reduction in vibrations during the machining process by protecting all the cutting edges which are in contact with the component. This increases the surface quality and ensures a very good reproducibility, completely irrespective of whether alloyed steels, cast steel, high alloy steels or titanium need to be cut.”
The series 638 drills feature a 30° helix angle, which together with the polished flutes ensure excellent chip removal. Special point geometry reduces the axial cutting forces; the 130° point angle centres the drill and ensures exact positioning.
Matching coating
The series 638 supplements the Zecha series 633 and 634, that are each available in diameter ranges spanning 0.78 - 3.0 mm. They differ in the cutting length, which are 4xD for the 633, and 7xD for the 634. “All three series boast long service lives and precise machining results,” says Cris Assandri – particularly in tough drilling applications where tools are subject to high temperatures and high wear. This is why the sharp, polished cutting edges and flutes on the series 638 drills have been evolved with an innovative and specially developed wear protection on the cutting edges.
