The Nanotechnology Knowledge Transfer Network (NanoKTN), one of the UK’s primary knowledge-based networks for Micro and Nanotechnologies, is pleased to confirm details of two free seminar sessions that it will be hosting at this year’s Micro Nano MEMS expo.
The Micro Nano MEMS conference and seminar programme runs alongside the exhibition which has grown to be one of Europe’s leading events dedicated to Micro, MEMS and Nano manufacturing.
This year Dr Gabriela Juarez Martinez, Healthcare & Life Sciences Theme Manager at the NanoKTN, will be introducing the Bio-MEMS and Micro Technologies for Health and Well-being session on the first day of the event. This programme will introduce presentations from global players as well as innovative UK companies, on the integration of microelectronics in the clinical setting. Speakers include Abbott Point of Care, QuantuMDx, Molecular Vision, Highland Biosciences, Lifescan Scotland (a Johnson and Johnson company), and Team Consulting.
Dr Gabriela Juarez Martinez comments, “In the next 10 years, predictions show that the number of people over age 60 will surpass one billion and by 2050 it will reach 2 billion. This will have a significant impact on the healthcare system. It is therefore critical that healthcare moves from a curative approach to a preventive approach; efforts should focus on facilitating the development of rapid and accurate diagnostic tests on a patient’s condition (outside of the traditional lab/hospital setting). These developments are currently made possible by the recent advances in research and the interdisciplinary interaction between microelectronics and life sciences.”
The NanoKTN will also be hosting a seminar session, in partnership with JEMI, on Micro and Nano Manufacturing across the two day event. Presentations will be delivered by BAE Systems, Moorfield, Silson, JEMI, the NanoKTN, University of Cambridge, Interposers GmbH, and Bridgelight.
Dr Alec Reader, Director of the NanoKTN explains, “Nanotechnology and MEMS often work together and bridge many other areas of technology as a key enabler. In both areas, the UK has global leadership and significant employment and wealth has been created as a result. The UK industry is represented by strong trade bodies that are actively networking to build supply chains and collaborative relationships to secure high growth.”
