Silicon DynamiX announces the addition of auto focus (AF) capability to its MEMS-based camera stabilization platform. This greatly improves its product offering which started as an Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) chip for enhancing the performance of CMOS Imaging Sensors (CIS)-based cameras. OIS chips cancel out X-Y vibration and shock to improve camera imaging clarity. By using a chip-based platform they reduce the size, cost, and power requirement of camera modules, which is ideal for smartphone applications. Auto focus capability allows the CIS camera chip to move vertically in the Z-axis to actively focus the camera image. Silicon DynamiX can now customize its electrostatic MEMS actuator platform for OIS-only, AF-only and a combination of OIS and AF capability for its camera customers.
