As part of the PIC conference, which takes place in Brussels on the 10th and 11th of April, innovative companies will be honored with the PIC-Award for products and solutions with highly integrated photonic circuits (PIC - photonic integrated circuits). Online voting is open to the public at picawards.net/vote until March 23 to decide who will be the winners in each of the various categories. The fast multi axis photonics alignment system from PI (Physik Instrumente) has been nominated for the final vote in the "Advances in Manufacturing" category.
During production and inspection of components with optical data transmission, it is necessary to align fibers or fiber arrays with positioning tolerances well under 50 nm to achieve optimum connection. Multi-channel inputs and outputs also require simultaneous alignment in several axes. In each case, the high-precision F-712.MA photonics alignment system (consisting of three stacked linear axes) or F-712.HA (consisting of a parallel kinematics hexapod) integrate a nanopositioner and align several fibers in seconds.
Both systems are available for either single-sided or double-sided positioning tasks. The scope of delivery includes a high-performance digital controller (E-712), firmware routines with algorithms for very fast positioning, and an extensive software package. The matching hexapod controller (C-887) is also supplied with the parallel-kinematic setup.
