Nanotech Precision, an innovative manufacturer of micro-sized instruments, electrodes and other complex components that support the medical, electronic and aerospace industries, announced it has brought on-line a new laser system to further advance its micro machining capabilities.
To demonstrate its laser system’s micro machining capabilities, Nanotech created the “Multiplex” — an element at both net size and one-quarter size that presents a series of design features that showcase the laser system’s precision. “Many engineers face roadblocks and constraints to size down designs, preventing them from further pushing the manufacturability envelope to miniaturize components,” said Dale Skoog, General Manager of Nanotech Precision. “Our laser system is the solution for engineers to go smaller, and we are excited to further advance and lead the way in micro machining with this new tool.”
The Multiplex Specs: At a Glance
Nanotech Precision produced the Multiplex element with the laser system at both net size and one-quarter the net size with key features including a spiral cut, window cut and tri-cut holes.
The Net -Size Multiplex: 16.5 gage (.0620 OD, .0520 ID) hypodermic tube, 316ss.
Quarter-Size Multiplex: 26 gage (.0180 OD, .0120 ID) hypodermic tube, 316ss.
Spiral Cut: This cut through one wall demonstrates Nanotech’s laser system’s ability to rotate and advance with accurate control of the beam.
- Net-Size: .0400” advance per revolution, .0020” wide cut.
- Quarter-Size: .0100” advance per revolution, .0005” wide cut.
Window Cut: This cut through both walls of the hypo tube presents the laser system’s ability to cut features through.
- Net-Size: .0240” x 0760”
- Quarter-Size: .0060” x .0190”
Tri-Cut Holes: The three holes cut through one wall demonstrates the laser system’s depth control ability and its precision to cut through one side without damaging the other.
- Net-Size: 3x Ø.0240”, 120 degrees apart
- Quarter-Size: 3x Ø.0060”, 120 degrees apart
