BIG KAISER, a global leader in premium high-precision tooling systems and solutions for the metalworking industries, has announced that it has made a series of investments into improving its offering to customers throughout Europe and has confirmed that it is continuing to grow in the current challenging market conditions.
Reto Adam, CEO at BIG KAISER, said, "Despite the negative effects of COVID-19, BIG KAISER has decided to continue in the implementation all of its planned in-house and external projects. As the impact of the pandemic reverberated down through the industrial supply chain, our sales targets naturally required some re-adjustment but, fortunately, our broad market scope meant that the medical and mould & die markets helped offset the declines registered in the automotive and aeronautics segments."
BIG KAISER expanded its technical sales network throughout Europe in 2020, increasing its presence in the important industrial markets of Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Sweden, Russia and the Czech Republic. The company provided expert technical support personnel for each country, in the local language, enabling focus on the specifics of the individual markets.
As of January 1, the German sales company BIG KAISER GmbH has changed its name and is now operating under the name BIG DAISHOWA GmbH. It sells and provides comprehensive local support for the complete BIG DAISHOWA and BIG KAISER product range in the very important German market.
The entire BIG KAISER / BIG DAISHOWA product portfolio sold in Europe is 100% manufactured in Switzerland and Japan. It includes more than 20,000 individual products such as collet chucks, hydraulic expansion chucks, boring heads, milling cutters and measuring tools, all meeting the highest quality standards. BIG KAISER will be showcasing these products from the 4th to the 9th of October in Milan at EMO, the world's leading trade show for machine tools and metal.
For its customers in Switzerland, BIG KAISER now provides an unlimited guarantee on its collet chucks against any material or manufacturing defects. This demonstrates the level of confidence that the company has in its products.
Proven market-leading performance
BIG KAISER's dedication to quality and performance was acknowledged in 2020 by the Global Industry Award 2020 in the category 'production performance' for its fully-automatic EWA fine boring tool. Since it does not need to be stopped for re-measurement and manual adjustments, the EWA fine boring tool is exceptionally fast and accurate, saves time and minimizes costly scrap caused by manual adjustment errors.
At the end of 2020, BIG KAISER further demonstrated the superior performance of its tool holders in cutting force performance tests that compared BIG KAISER tool holders with those of its competitors. The test results clearly showed that the MEGA New Baby Chuck delivered the highest radial depth of cut values under acceptable vibration levels. Competitors' tool holders achieved between 50% and 70% of the performance of the BIG KAISER tool holder, which enabled higher removal rates and throughput, which equated to superior cost efficiency and longer tool lifetime.
Continued investment throughout 2020
In mid-2020, BIG KAISER opened the doors of its state-of-the-art technology center located at its headquarters in Ruemlang, Switzerland. When the pandemic situation permits, the new Tech Center enables customers to see BIG KAISER's products firsthand, providing the ideal venue for training sessions and meetings.
Despite Covid-related delays, BIG KAISER continued to improve productivity throughout 2020 by successfully installing all its planned production machinery and several robots for automation of production and assembly.
BIG KAISER also digitized its entire internal IT structure last year, migrating to the latest SAP enterprise resource planning (ERP) system and automating the management of R&D with a PDM (Product Data Management) system that can generate thousands of new drawings and concepts per year. The implemented IT system enables all information to be managed securely and efficiently, saving time and effectively mitigating human error.
